Information Service of HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH PAVLE TRAVELS TO MOSCOW - Conferral of Medals - On Sunday, January 20, 2002, His Holiness Pavle - Serbian Patriarch, together with His Eminence Amfilohije - Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Grace Justin - Bishop of Timok and Protosyncellos Antonije (Pantelic), travels to Moscow. On January 21, His Holiness Patriarch Pavle will be awarded the highest medal and the annual award of the International Fund of Unity of the Orthodox Peoples. The solemn event will take place in the Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The International Fund of Unity of the Orthodox Peoples was founded in 1995, with the blessing of the His Holiness Patriarch Aleksey II, the aim being the support to the Orthodox peoples to cooperate in cultural and social fields. The management of the Fund cooperates with the primates of the regional Orthodox Churches, as well as with the presidents of Parliaments and Governments of Byelorussia, Bulgaria, Moldavia, Poland, Greece, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Lebanon, Lithuania, Jordan, Finland, Yugoslavia and other countries. Apart from His Holiness Pavle, Serbian Patriarch, the other laureates of the Fund for 2000-2001 are Vladimir Putin - President of Russia, Alexander Lukashenko - President of Byelorussia, Spiros Kiprianu - President of the Parliament of Cyprus, Hachatrian - President of the Parliament of Armenia, Isam Fades - Vice-Prime Minister of Lebanon, SYNDESMOS - international association of the Orthodox youths, International Assembly of Orthodoxy and others. During the visit to Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Pavle will also receive the award of the Fund of St. Andrew the First-Called among the Apostles, which was founded with the aim to affirm the statehood, Russian Church and army, as the pillars of the existence of Russia. |
