RECEIVED His Holiness Pavle, Serbian Patriarch, received Mr Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, President of the Republic of Italy, in the Patriarchate Palace in Belgrade. After a warm and cordial welcome, His Holiness Patriarch Pavle expressed great gratitude to the Republic of Italy for help, as well as to the Italian army which protects our monasteries - the Patriarchate of Pec and Decani. The Patriarch and the President pointed out friendly relations between our two peoples. President Ciampi expressed hope that reforms in Yugoslavia and establishing of institutions - already existing in Europe - would enable our country to enter the European Union. His Holiness presented President Ciampi with the monograph "Terra Sacra" in Italian, and the book "Crucified Kosovo" containing the latest data on damaged and destroyed Serbian shrines in Kosovo and Metochia, and also received a gift - an artist painting presenting the landscape of Rome. |
