ON THE FEAST MEETING OF THE LORD
PATRIARCH PAVLE SERVES IN THE RUZICA CHURCH

On Friday, February 15, the Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates the feast Meeting of the Lord. His Holiness Pavle, Serbian Patriarch, will serve the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God (Ruzica) at Kalemegdan. After the Liturgy, Patriarch Pavle will serve the memorial service to the defenders of Belgrade killed in liberation wars.

Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic says the following about this feast:

"…On the fortieth day after the Nativity of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the Most Holy Theotokos brought the child into the Temple in Jerusalem so as to present him, according to the law of Moses, to God and purify herself. Following the Lord's revelation, an old man Simeon was in the Temple, waiting for the Messiah's Nativity. Seeing the Infant Christ, the old man said: "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples" (Luke, 2).

The meeting of young Christ and old Simeon is celebrated as the feast Meeting of the Lord on February 15/2.
