Information Service of PROFESSOR CHRISTOS YANARAS The Academic Council of the Theological Faculty of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade decided to confer on Friday, March 1, the honorary doctoral degree of to Professor Christos Yanaras from the University of Pandio in Athens. Professor Yanaras delivered a lecture "Language of Church Ontology". His Eminence Amfilohije - Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Their Graces Irinej - Bishop of Backa, Ignjatije - Bishop of Branicevo, and Grigorije - Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, as well as Bogoljub Sijakovic - Federal Secretary for Religious Affairs attended the conferral of the degree at the Faculty for Religious Affairs, together with other professors and students. Christos Yanaras (1935), born in Athens, is a professor of philosophy at the Pandio University of Athens, at the Department of Political Science and International Studies. Professor Yanaras holds the degree of doctor of theology at the Aristotle's University in Thessalonike and the degree of doctor philosophy at Sorbonne in Paris. He delivered lectures as visiting professor in Geneva, Paris and Crete. The basic part of his academic work is the study and research of differences between Hellenic philosophy and the philosophy of Western Europe and theological-ecclesiological tradition. Professor Yanaras, who is one of the most significant Orthodox scholars today, wrote more than 40 books, numerous studies and critical articles in Athens newspaper "To Vima" and Katimerini". |
