Information Service of TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BOMBARDMENT OF THE METROPOLITANATE IN ZAGREB His Eminence Metropolitan Jovan of Zagreb and Ljubljana, yesterday, in the facilities of the Metropolitanate of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Zagreb, located at Djure Dezelica St. No. 4, celebrated the solemn Rite of Thanksgiving on the occasion of the reconstruction and restoration of this building, which was destroyed exactly 10 years ago by bombardment. The attack, in which the building was to a great extent demolished, took place in the evening hours of 11 April 1992, at a time when the Serbian people were being greatly persecuted. The very service of Thanksgiving, as emphasized by Metropolitan Jovan, is a sign that the Serbian Church and her faithful people survived an attempt at annihilation. Credit for the restoration of the Metropolitanate facilities, in which the Canadian Embassy is presently housed, to the greatest extent belongs to the Rev. Fr. Milenko Popovic, Dean of the Zagreb Deanery. [OEA Translation: Washington, DC] |
