HIS GRACE IRINEJ, BISHOP OF BACKA, CONSECRATED
GENERALLY RENOVATED CHURCH FROM XIVth CENTURY
AT MARTONOS, NEAR KANJIZA

Yesterday, on May 22, 2002, His Grace Irinej, Th.D., Bishop of Backa, performed the small consecration of the generally renovated Church dedicated to the Translation of the Relics of Saint Nicholas at Martonos, near Kanjiza. This Church was built in the 14th century and is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Backa. Apart from the Church, the parish centre was also renovated. The place Martonos was for the first time mentioned in connection with the Tatar onslaught way back in 1237.

Bearing in mind that the news of May 20, 2002 contain a mistake on the consecrations of the new churches in the Diocese of Backa (instead of May 18, 2002, there stands May 18, 2001) we repeat the news together with the photographs of the described events.
