A EXCHANGE BETWEEN PATRIARCH PAVLE AND THE PRESIDENT OF ROMANIA

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle, received today in the Patriarchate in Belgrade, Mr. Ion Iliescu, President of the Republic of Romania, together with his entourage.

In a sincere and open exchange His Holiness Patriarch Pavle emphasized the significance of friendly relations between two neighboring and co-religionist peoples, which has been nurtured throughout history. President Iliescu stressed the contribution of the Serbian and Romanian Orthodox Churches toward the stability and development of Yugoslavia and Romania, as well as peace in the region.

Also present at the reception were: Bishops Lavrentije of Sabac-Valjevo, Irinej of Backa, and Pahomije of Vranje; the members of the Holy Synod of Bishops; and Mr. Rasim Ljajic, Federal Minister for National Minorities in Yugoslavia.
