ASSEMBLY OF THE SERBIAN NATIONAL MOVEMENT
SVETOZAR MILETIC

The Second Great Assembly of the Serbian National Movement SVETOZAR MILETIC was held in the crowded hall of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad on December 15, 2002. Many delegates, guests and friends of this very important non-governmental organisation, which is among the rare ones whose basic principle is not to scorn its own people, participated in the work of the Assembly.

Many university professors and eminent persons were present, such as the Academician Dr. Dejan Medakovic - President of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bozidar Kovacek - President of Cultural Literary Society Matica srpska, Academician Dr. Dragan Nedeljkovic - President of the Movement, Prof. Dr. Vasilije Krestic - eminent member of the Movement etc. Before the very beginning of the session the Invocation of the Holy Spirit took place. Their Eminences Lukijan and Porfirije - Bishops of Osijek&Baranja and Jegar respectively, participated in the prayer. His Grace Dr. Irinej - Bishop of Backa delivered a short speech:

Your Graces, hierarchal brothers, honorable fathers, priests, esteemed President, members, friends and guests of the Serbian National Movement Svetozar Miletic, ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, God be with you! Unless we exclude church-hierarchical bodies of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the institutions directly governed by it, the Serbian National Movement Svetozar Miletic is, as far as I know, the only institution in our country which, prior to the beginning of its public gatherings, first asks for the God's blessing, i.e. asks for the performance of the Invocation of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I as the authorised hierarch carried out this ceremony, glory be to the God. And I would like to add that I sincerely wish to all of you, in my own name and in the name of the present hierarchs - Bishops of Osijek&Baranja and Jegar, Lukijan and Porfirije, the blessing of God and the benefit of the Holy Spirit, both for the work of the current Assembly of the Movement and for the lives of all of you and of your families, for the Serbian nation as a whole and for all the peoples of the good will.

I consider your guiding idea - the idea of nourishing, protecting and maintaining the unity of our people, the fullness of its national and cultural identity and its cooperation with the neighbouring countries and with all the peoples of our immediate and wider vicinity, based on the principles of equality and reciprocity, and under the life-giving rays of Christ's love, justice and truth - to be the most important idea in the public life of the entire Serbian nation at present, even more because the Serbian nation has experienced more attacks from inside, than from outside. The "attackers" are mostly the people of burned conscience, biological offsprings of the Serbian nation, but entirely and severely engaged against it on the spiritual level. Those are, to our sorrow and disgrace, the displaced Serbs - by rule the atheist ones - who treat their own people with the adjective of a fascist nation, and disgrace the name of our holy Church calling it a clerofascist organisation, which not even their Marxist spiritual parents nor spiritual offsprings of slaughterers from Jasenovac or followers of Jihad never did. In a nutshell, those are the ones whose work, if we should mark it in church terms, could be eliminated by exorcism.

May God enlighten the astray ones, and may He support and direct all of us to the path of the Evangelical justice and goodness, Saint Sava's learning and bravery! Let us not forget Biblical and life truth that God is more powerful than devil, Christ than Antichrist, Saint Sava than Sinan-Pasha, truth than lies, life than death, light than darkness. Live and work with that truth, the truth that liberates everyone and everybody! May God's blessing follow you on that path and may the prayers of our Saint Sava and all other saints shelter you on that path!

The Parliament of Vojvodina broadcast a statement on its official Internet presentation, saying that it "makes the most severe protest" regarding "the conclusions of the Assembly of the Movement Svetozar Miletic and tactless statements of the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church". This "self-recognition" is a real wonder. It is obvious that His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Backa, did not mention any specific institution or person. His words surely did not relate to the Parliament of Vojvodina, which could not be called Serbian, bearing in mind that the Serbs are minority in it. We would also like to point out that neither does the Message of the Second Great National Assembly of the Serbian National Movement Svetozar Miletic, which expresses the responsibility for the destiny of the people and the state, contain the names of any persons or institutions, wherefore the surprise aroused by such a statement of the Assembly of Vojvodina is even greater.
