CHRISTMAS IN SARAJEVO

Evening service was served on Christmas Eve in all the three churches in Sarajevo, with the traditional firing of yule log.

In the morning, on Christmas, His Eminence Nikolaj Metropolitan of Dabro - Bosnia served the Holy Hieararchal Liturgy in the Sarajevo Cathedral together with the priests and deacons of the Diocese of Dabro - Bosnia. The Sarajevo radio and TV station transmitted the Holy Hieararchal Liturgy.

On January 8 in the evening, a Christmas reception was held in the Metropolitan's residence in Sarajevo. Many eminent guest attended this reception: representatives of the Roman-Catholic, Anglican Church, Islamic community and Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of Councils of Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of local authorities, as well as many foreign diplomats and representatives of international organisations. Among the eminent guests there were Lord Paddy Ashdown the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Jacques Paul Klein, Head of the UN mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassadors of Yugoslavia, Russia and Greece and others.

On January 9, Sarajevo Symphony Orchestra held Christmas concert in the National Theatre. The Symphony Orchestra, the choir of the Opera of the National Theatre in Sarajevo and the choir Pontanima performed the compositions of Mokranjac, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninov.
