DECISION OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH
ON THE ESTABLISHING OF AN AUTONOMOUS METROPOLIA
FOR ALL THE RUSSIAN FAITHFUL IN WESTERN EUROPE

His Holiness Alexey II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, made a decision, together with the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church to form a unique autonomous Metropolia for all the Russian faithful in Western Europe, regardless of the fact under which jurisdiction they are and whether they were under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. This decision was made to the end of performing better pastoral and missionary work and respect of the canonical order of the Orthodox Church.

For that purpose, His Holiness addressed – on behalf of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church – His Grace the Most Reverend Anthony, Metropolitan of Sourozh; His Grace the Most Reverend Simon, Archbishop of Brussels and Belgium; His Grace the Most Reverend Innokentii, Archbishop of Korsun; His Grace the Right Reverend Gabriel, Bishop of Komana, Locum Tenens of the Archdiocese of Russian Orthodox Parishes in Western Europe and His Grace the Right Reverend Amvrosii, Bishop of Geneva and Western Europe (Russian Orthodox Church Abroad) and all Orthodox parishes of Russian tradition in Western Europe, asking all of them to unite under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church, within the newly founded Metropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church for Western Europe. The duty of the temporary administrator has been entrusted to His Grace Anthony, Metropolitan of Sourozh, with the seat in Great Britain.
