Cyril and Methodius (Niksic) organise the Eighth Philosophical-Theological Symposium, the topic being “Suffering and Wisdom”.

The lectures will be delivered in Niksic, Srbinje and Trebinje in the period May 23-25.

The topic “Suffering and Wisdom” brings up the classic questions, questions characteristic of our culture that traditionally unites Hellenic and Judeo-Christian elements. On these foundations, within the contemporary world in which we live together, many theological, ethical, psychological, aesthetic and other questions arise, and they are directed to the sense of being. Each of the mentioned areas reflects the problem of suffering, afflictions and sacrificing and views it as the path to the essential/

As a “thinking straw” that is always “amidst whirls of winds” man is turned to suffering and wisdom. Suffering is connected with endurance and passivity, but also with action and activity. In active passivity, thinking increases. In that sense, tragedy and afflictions can give birth to wisdom. The tragical forms ethical and religious convictions. Facing suffering, we discover wisdom and true life.

Suffering and wisdom oppose economy as a global manifestation of existence, directing us to oikonomy and care to salvation.

Studies from this scientific gathering will be published in a booklet.

Members of the Organisational Board are: Presbyter Gojko Perovic – Rector of the Seminary at Cetinje; Mr Savo Lausevic, PhD. – Head of the Philosophy Department and Mr Branislav Kovacevic – Professor of the Seminary at Srbinje.
