TERRORIST ATTACK IN UROSEVAC

Four people and one member of Greek KFOR hurt in the attack in front of the Orthodox Church

Obilic, June 4, 2003

The Diocese of Raska-Prizren and the Serbian National Council also condemn recent terrorist attack in Urosevac when on May 31, 2002 at 21:45 unknown persons cast a hand grenade at the members of Greek KFOR who have been protecting the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Emperor Uros in Urosevac (built in 1933). Five persons were hurt in this attack, one of them being KFOR soldier. The attackers fled the scene and are still being looked for.

UNMIK police also confirmed that the attack happened in its statement dated June 2, 2003. Furthermore, Albanian media also reported about the attack. The president of the Urosevac Municipality Adem Salihaj gave a statement to Radio Kosovo (on June 3, 2003) in which he expressed his worry due to this attack.

Unfortunately, this terrorist attack on KFOR members who protect the only Orthodox church in this city in which Serbs live no more, is just another indicator of the worsened security in Kosovo and Metochia, where – in spite of all the efforts of international cycles to hide reality – anarchy and chaos still rule.

Just several days after the attack of the Albanian extremists on Spanish KFOR members who protect the Gorioc Monastery near Istok, Greek KFOR soldiers were attacked in front of the Orthodox church in Urosevac. These attack obviously serve to show that not even the protectors of the Orthodox shrines are safe.
