Information Service of THE NEW ISSUE OF “SVETOSAVSKO OGNJISTE” MAGAZINE A new Serbian church magazine “Svetosavsko ognjiste” (Hearth Emanating St. Sava’s Flame) was launched in Johannesburg, with the blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle and His Eminence Seraphim Metropolitan of Johannesburg and Pretoria, and with the efforts of the Father Panteleimon Parish Priest of Johannesburg. To the joy and benefit of the Serbian people in Africa, the first issue was published at Easter, and the new, second issue appeared at Vidovdan. The magazine gathers several associates, among who there is Dr. Methodius Hayes, African (ex Protestant pastor who converted to Orthodoxy). The magazine is abundant in spiritual texts (mostly taken over from our Orthodox books and magazines) which try to satiate the essential needs of our people 11000 km away from Serbia. There are current spiritual text of the main editor, father Panteleimon, his reports from the parish, and there are also national texts from various fields and various historical periods. Apart from that, there are texts on local events important for the Serbs in South Africa, on the Serbian school in South Africa, our Embassy in Pretoria, Orthodoxy in Africa and on the Serbs from other parts of Africa. The magazine may not have been published at all, had it not been for help of some diligent Serbs from Johannesburg. First of all there is Mr Miodrag Pepic who prints the magazine in his own printing office at the price far lower than the real cost of printing, then Mr Veljko Tijanic who finances the major part of the magazine, and Messrs Zoran Rapajic and Zoran Pepic who are technical editors. It should also be noted that our Embassy in the Republic of South Africa bore half of the printing costs of the first issue. It is our sincere wish that “Svetosavsko ognjiste” should warm the hearts and lighten the life paths of the Serbian people in this part of the world. |
