The reason for Bishop Irinej’s addressing the public is the recent events in
Macedonia – most precisely maltreating of bishops and priests of the Serbian Orthodox
Church at the border crossings to Macedonia, as well as arrest and fabricated five-day
detention of His Eminence Jovan, Metropolitan of Veles/Povardarje and Serbian
Patriarch’s Exarch for the Diocese of Ohrid, that happened in Bitolj.
