Information Service of PURCHASE OF A TRACT OF LAND His Grace Nikanor Bishop of Australia-New Zealand addressed the Serbs living in Australia this week joyously informing them that a tract of land was bought in Sydney for the future Serbian college Saint Sava. The tract of land is 75.2 ha and is located in the western outskirts of Sydney. This large lot is situated between the main roads – Camden Valley Way and Highway 5. It takes half an hour drive to get to the centre of the city from there. The school complex will be built on that land in phases, first kindergarten, then primary and secondary school. Apart from school objects, the plan is to build church, library, retired people’s home, sport terrains and some accompanying facilities, which open possibility for better education of Serbian children and better spiritual and social life of all the Orthodox faithful Serbs in that country. His Grace Bishop Nikanor stated that the land had been purchased for USD 3.6 million, that contract had been signed and deposit paid. The land will be taken in a year, and in the meantime plans and projects should be made and documentation collected for that endeavour, which opens a totally new chapter in the life of the Serbian Orthodox community in Australia. Bishop Nikanor invited all our people to support this project for their own future as well as for the future of their children and their community. The lot offers many possibilities, due to its size and position, as well as due to the provided water and power supplies. In addition, the lot is easily reachable and close to the highway exit. Evidently, such a large, accessible area is of enormous significance and value for the entire community. Father Srboljub and President of the College Board Mr Ilija Glisic thanked the Lord for the purchase of the land, all those who trusted in the project and their vision of its future, as well as the sponsors and other members of the Serbian Orthodox community who supported it. Half of the funds (the total being $ 3.6 million) for the lot has been provided, but the rest of $ 1.8 million remains to be provided in the most immediate future. The deadline is in the next 18 months wherefore, Bishop Nikanor pleads for financial aid needed for the complete realisation of this dream of the Serbian Orthodox community. |
