Information Service of DESECRATION OF SERBIAN SHRINES Forced entry into Orthodox churches and shrines frequently occurs on the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Metropolitanate of Dabro-Bosnia frequently addressed complaints to the Federation Ministry of the Interior, however the answer was always the same that the perpetrators were underage individuals. Although judging by the gravity of the situation, it was obvious that children could not execute the same. Christian cemeteries in Sarajevo, both Orthodox and Roman Catholic alike, were vandalized and desecrated. The night of 30/31 December 2003 the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God Church in Travnik was broken into. The perpetrators looking for money, scattered icons on tomb of Christ and destroyed a section of the icon screen, while overturning and strewing about everything in the altar, and stealing money from the candle stand. During the Nativity Holidays, looting again occurred in the Holy Transfiguration Church in New Sarajevo. Namely, this church was the target of a perpetrator two weeks before the Feast of the Nativity of Christ. Following the first break-in, the window through which the thief entered was secured and reinforced. Despite this, cutting through the metal frame and breaking into the church, the vandal overturned and scattered about everything in search of money. Such incidents are repeated, even though Federation police patrol the church. The International police force was also informed of the same. |
