HIS HOLINESS SERBIAN PATRIARCH PAVLE CELEBRATED A PRAYER SERVICE FOR THE SUFFERING PEOPLE OF KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

(BELGRADE) – 18 March 2004 – His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle this morning, 18 March 2004, at 8:00 AM, celebrated a Prayer Service for the suffering people of Kosovo and Metohija, at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade. Given the occasion, following the Prayer Service, the Serbian Patriarch said:

"We offered our prayers to God for our suffering people in Kosovo and Metohija, for the descendants of those of our holy ancestors who knew to breathe their last be it on the stake or by the noose, but never to renounce their faith for any worldly interest whatsoever, nor to commit that which is unworthy and inhuman. We must preserve ourselves at this time from any unthinkable revenge, such as thoughtless individuals began committing in Nish and in Belgrade. We must have in mind that we are defending ourselves from evil and from evil-doers, but not in an inhuman manner, not in the manner of evil-doers. O Lord, help all, and even us and our enemies. They are in need of peace, freedom, justice as are we. O Lord, glory and thanks to You."
