MEETING OF THE CENTRAL BOARD FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ST SAVA CATHEDRAL

On Saturday, May 20, 2006, a meeting was held of the Central Committee for the completion of St. Sava Orthodox Cathedral in Vracar (Belgrade) with the participation of the Holy Assembly of Bishops and the members of the Central Committee.

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle addressed the members of the St. Sava Cathedral Board with the following words: “God be praised that we have reached the end of external work on the Cathedral and that internal work is presently under way. We wish to thank all philanthropists and donors to the Cathedral from the fatherland and abroad. We thank God for having given us the honor in this difficult time of working in and ultimately realizing the desire and wish of previous generations of our Serbian Orthodox people.”

Professor Dr. Vojislav Milovanovic gave a report on completed work on the building of St. Sava Cathedral, and Mr. Radivoje Minic, treasurer of St. Sava Cathedral, gave the financial report.

According to the financial report so far a total of about 25 million U.S. dollars has been spent on the construction of the Cathedral. Currently the Cathedral’s interior is being decorated, including preparation for illustration with mosaics, which is one of the biggest projects yet to be completed before the Cathedral is completely finished.

After the meeting the members of the Holy Assembly of Bishops and the Central Committee visited the Cathedral and held a memorial service for all deceased founders, builders, philanthropists and donors of the St. Sava Memorial Orthodox Cathedral.
