MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD FOR PRINCE PAUL KARAGEORGEVITCH

On Thursday, September 14, 2006 His Eminence Metropolitan Jovan of Zagreb and Ljubljana officiated at a memorial service for Prince Paul Karageorgevitch, Princess Olga and Prince Nicholas. The service took place in the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Archangel Michael in Belgrade in the presence of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle and Their Graces Bishop Vasilije of Zvornik and Tuzla, Bishop Hrizostom of Bihac and Petrovac, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje, Bishop Filaret of Milesevo, and Bishop Irinej of Australia and New Zealand. Also present were members of the Karageorgevitch family, including HRH Princess Elizabeth from Belgrade and HRH Prince Alexander from Paris, both children of the late Prince Paul; TRH Crown Prince Alexander and his wife, Princess Katherine; HRH Princess Linda, widow of the late Prince Tomislav, and their sons, TRH Princes Michael and George.

In addition to numerous faithful, the memorial service was attended by representatives of public and cultural life, as well as HE Aleksandr Alexeyev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation; Hallie Polt, the wife of Michael C. Polt, Ambassador of the United States of America; Mr. Branimir Loncar, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Croatia; HE Hasan Servet Oktem, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey; HE Jafa Ben Ari, Ambassador of Israel; HE Dante Coelho de Lima, Ambassador of Brazil; HE Saw Ching Hong, Ambassador of Malaysia; HE Kim Yung Hi, Ambassador of South Korea; Mr. Wilhelm Meier, Ambassador of Switzerland; Mr. Eduardo Hector Moguel Flores, Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Mexico; Ms. Lepa Babic, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mr. Mitar Pavic, Head of the Consular Department; Ms. Ljiljana Miljanic-Casim, the Honorary General Consul of Sri Lanka; HE Josep M. Lloveras, Head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Serbia; Mr. Harald Hirschhofer, IMF Resident Representative to Serbia and Montenegro; Mr. Radovan Jelasic, Governor of the National Bank of Serbia; Mr. Dragan Kojadinovic, Minister of Culture; and Mr. Vladimir Bozovic, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior.

After the memorial service HRH Princess Elizabeth presented two books about her father to the Library of the Belgrade Patriarchate.

Bishop Irinej of Australia and New Zealand delivered the homily at the memorial service of Prince Paul Karadjordjevic of blessed repose. The homily in its entirety can be read here:
