SERBIAN ORTHODOX YOUTH ASSEMBLY
On August 16, 2004 the opening ceremony of the Fourth Serbian
Orthodox Youth Assembly took place in Orasac. After taking part
in Holy Liturgy and a Religious Procession at the church in Orasac,
in Maricevica Jaruga, where the First Serbian Rebellion began,
the Assembly headed toward Montenegro and Republika Srpska. More
than 80 Assembly participants from fraternal associations in
the country and abroad will have the opportunity to hear the
wise words of the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church and
other lecturers over the course of a week.
The theme of this year’s Assembly is Humanity and Heroism –
St. Peter of Cetinje and Karageorge.
In Milesevo the Assembly was addressed by His Grace Bishop Filaret
of Milesevo, and they were welcomed in Cetinje by His Eminence
Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral. From
Cetinje the participants will go to the monastery of Ostrog,
and from there they will continue on to Trebinje, the city of
Jovan Ducic. In Trebinje they will meet with Their Graces Bishop
Atanasije and Bishop Grigorije, the retired and present bishops
of the Diocese of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, respectively. During
the course of their stay in Trebinje, Assembly participants will
visit the monasteries of Tvrdos and Crkvine. After taking part
in the religious procession in Trebinje on the feast of the Holy
Transfiguration, they will continue on to Mt. Cer, where the
90th anniversary of the Battle of Cer during World War I is to
be commemorated.
This is the fourth Serbian Orthodox Youth Assembly to be held.
The first took place in 2001 in the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade;
the second in Cacak; and the third in Studenica.
CONCLUSION OF MOBA 2004 A program is to be held in front of St. Sava Cathedral in Vracar
(Belgrade) on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 on the occasion of the
conclusion of MOBA 2004, a youth volunteer program organized
by the Diocese of Sabac and Valjevo and His Grace Bishop Lavrentije
of Sabac and Valjevo.
Hosting all participants in this event will be Professor Dr.
Vojislav Vukcevic, the Serbian minister for diaspora; the master
builder of St. Sava Cathedral, Professor Dr. Vojislav Milovanovic;
and Belgrade Municipal Assembly president, Ms. Radmila Hrustanovic.
Approximately
150 children ages 18 and below from 17 European and American
countries and Australia took part in MOBA 2004.
