HOLY
RELICS OF STS JOHN CHRYSOSTOM AND GREGORY
THE THEOLOGIAN RETURNED TO CONSTANTINOPLE
AFTER EIGHT CENTURIES OF EXILE
On
behalf of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle His Grace Bishop
Irinej of Backa will attend a festive church ceremony in Constantinople
on Tuesday, November 30, 2004. On this day, the holy relics of
the great saints John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian will
be returned from Rome to Constantinople after eight centuries.
On
Saturday, November 27, 2004 in Rome Pope John Paul II handed over
the holy relics of the two great luminaries of the Church to His
All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in St. Peter’s Basilica.
The holy relics
of St. John Chrysostom and St. Gregory were stolen from Constantinople
when the Crusaders sacked the Byzantine capital in 1204.
Both
saints were great theologians of the Christian Church, prophets
and predecessors of Patriarch Bartholomew on the throne of Constantinople,
St. Gregory from 379 to 381 and St. John from 398 to 404.
COMMUNIQUE
OF THE METROPOLITANATE OF MONTENEGRO AND THE LITTORAL
Extending
congratulations upon the 100 year anniversary of radio telegraphy,
the 60 year anniversary of Radio Montenegro and the 40 year anniversary
of TV Montenegro, we are certain that the great majority of radio
listeners and TV Montenegro watchers recognized that the person
presenting himself at the ceremony in the CNP on October 26, 2004
as “the Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro”
was in fact an actor who has been playing this theatrical role
for some time, as well as that the real Archbishop of Cetinje
and Metropolitan and Montenegro and the Littoral was not present
at the ceremony. The theatre is by its very nature a virtual reality
and consequently it is hardly surprising that a casting extra
should periodically appear in it in the role of “metropolitan”.
Furthermore, it is common knowledge that there are some actors
that identify so much with the role that they play that they imagine
that they are not who they really are but the person whom they
are role-playing. Apparently what we are witness to here is this
sort of psychopathological phenomenon.
However,
since there are some naive and childlike people who may imagine
that a theatrical performance is reality, and unfortunately that
appears to be the case among some of the key leaders of Radio
Television Montenegro, we nonetheless find it necessary to draw
attention to fact that the person involved is a certain Dedeic,
former priest of the Constantinople Patriarchate, who although
defrocked long ago still like to play the role of “metropolitan”
even though he knows very well that he has never been one nor
will he ever be one. The fact that in Montenegro there are gullible
people who accept theatre as reality is hardly surprising as this
is the land of Scepan the Small, the impostor king, where until
recently someone named Miranovic was claiming to be the Montenegrin
king, and which has never been lacking in witches, and many other
tricks and deceptions. The fact that such people exist is regrettable
but hardly tragic, since they exist all over the world; however,
that there are people who believe them and follow them – that
is what should represent cause for worry for every healthy minded
person.
METROPOLITAN
AMFILOHIJE TO RECEIVE GROUP
OF SERBIA-MONTENEGRO DEPUTIES
On
November 29, 2004 His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro
and the Littoral will receive a group of deputies from the Serbia
and Montenegro Assembly who are taking part in the session of
the parliamentary committees for security and defense of the countries
in our region and the European Union as part of the Cetinje parliamentary
forum. The meeting between Metropolitan Amfilohije and the deputies
will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Metropolitanate in Cetinje.
BISHOP
GRIGORIJE HOLD LECTURE
ON THE ROLE OF THE PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH
His Eminence
Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina gave a lecture in
Podgorica on November 29, 2004 on the role of the people in the
Church. The Church is frequently described as a ship where the
bishop, clergy and deacons are the crew, and the faithful are
the passengers who travel by that ship and during the voyage must
adhere to certain rules, said Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje and
Herzegovina, speaking at the Missionary Spiritual Center in Podgorica.

JEDINSTVO
MIXED CHOIR FROM BANJA LUKA HOLDS CONCERT
IN BELGRADE’S ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL
On Friday,
November 26, at 7:00 p.m. Belgraders had the pleasure of listening
to the Jedinstvo Mixed Choir from Banja Luka performing with the
blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle in Belgrade’s
Orthodox Cathedral under the direction of Nemanja Savic. In addition
to the well-trained, disciplined and creatively disposed choir,
which responded to the slightest prompts from the inspired director,
we also had the privilege of hearing several brilliant soloists
performing with the choir, including sopranos Lidija Pajic, Andjelka
Jokic and Tijana Topic, baritones Deacon Vladislav Radujkovic
and Lazar Radoja, and tenor Janko Rodic.
