BISHOP IRINEJ MEETS WITH NOVI SAD MAYOR MAJA GOJKOVIC

On December 7, 2004 His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa received Novi Sad mayor Maja Gojkovic in the bishop’s residence in Novi Sad. The talks that took place were open and represent the first official meeting between the mayor of Novi Sad and the Bishop of Backa in years. The topic of conversation was the relationship between the Diocese of Backa and the City of Novi Sad, and the needs of Orthodox faithful in Novi Sad.

BISHOP NIKOLAI AND THE NEW TESTAMENT ON THE JEWS

On Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at the Faculty of Machine Engineering of the University of Belgrade, Srpski Sabor Dveri and Pravoslavlje, the official publication of the Serbian Patriarchate, will organize a promotion of Predrag Samardzic’s new book, "Bishop Nikolai and the New Testament on the Jews". Speakers will include Bishop Atanasije Jevtic of Zahumlje and Herzegovina (retired), Hieromonk Irinej Dobrijevic, Presbyter Milorad Sredojevic, and writer Djordje Janjic.

REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CHURCH OF GREECE TO THE EUROPEAN UNION HOLDS LECTURE IN REPRESENTATION OF RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH TO EUROPEAN INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

His Grace Bishop Athanasios Chatzopoulos of Achaia, the representative of the Church of Greece to the European Union, held a lecture organized by the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church at the European International Organizations on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 on the theme “The mystery of salvation and the understanding of the concept of deification in Orthodox patristic tradition”. The next lecture will be given by Deacon Nikolai Losky, professor of the St. Sergei Theological Institute in Paris, on the topic of “Orthodoxy in Western Europe: History and future prospects”.
