FORMAL ACADEMY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
INSTITUTE FOR NEONATOLOGY On Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. His Grace Bishop Porfirije
of Jegar attended a formal academy in the Deputies’ Club organized
by the Institute for Neonatology on the occasion of the 80th
anniversary of this important medical center.
Bishop Porfirije, who represented His Holiness Serbian Patriarch
Pavle and the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church at the
event, spoke of the effort of the Serbian Church over the years
with the “Let Us Breathe Life into Serbia” philanthropic campaign.
He expressed thanks to all donors to date, especially the Princess
Katherine Karadjordjevic Foundation, the largest contributor
thus far to the campaign. He also thanked a new donor, the Russian
oil company Lukoil, which on this occasion presented the Institute
with a stationary incubator, thus joining the ranks of the generous
donors to the “Let Us Breathe Life into Serbia” campaign.
Speakers who gave welcoming remarks at the gathering included
Dr. Slobodanka Ilic, the director of the Institute; Dr. Tomica
Milosavljevic, the Minister of Health; HRH Crown Prince Alexander
II Karadjordjevic; and Dr. Richard Polin, the Director of Neonatology
at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Professor of Pediatrics
