SERBS INSULTED AND THREATENED IN DRNIS,
CROATIA
In the courtyard of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos
in Drnis, on Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the afternoon, workers
working in the courtyard came under verbal attack.
Residents of the neighboring housing complex began to heavily
insult and threaten the workers in the courtyard of the Serbian
Orthodox on the pretext that they whey were bothered by the noise
of the lawnmower.
The two workers, both Serbs, stopped working out of fear for
their personal safety and immediately informed the parish priest.
The priest attempted to smooth over the situation and asked the
residents of the building when the best time would be to continue
the work that was bothering them. The answer he got was “never”.
One hour after this incident, a new series of nationally and
religiously motivated insults and threats ensued. When the priest
went into the holy shrine to call the faithful for religious
service, threats and insults ensued which this time were addressed
specifically to him.
ST. SAVA SPIRITUAL CENTER UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN TIVAT The first phase of construction work on the St. Sava Spiritual
Center in Tivat is nearing completion. In addition to housing
designed to meet the needs of the priest, the central part of
the building will include an auditorium for the gathering of
the faithful and rooms for religious instruction, choir and an
icon painting section. The parish home will also include an area
for a summer spiritual school for the purpose of acquainting
Serbian children from abroad with those living in the homeland.
The Spiritual Center is expected to significantly enhance work
with children, young people and adults in the church parish of
Tivat.
The future center will be dedicated to the martyrs of Prevlaka
since it is located in the former metoh (church estate) of Prevlaka
Monastery, just as the entire region of the present-day municipality
of Tivat was formerly a part of the metoh of Prevlaka, and is
now a part of the glory of the holy shrine of Prevlaka.
