ORTHODOX MELODIES AT CUKARICKA PADINA

On Sunday, October 2, 2005, the choir of the church of St. Paraskeva at Cukaricka Padina in Belgrade held an all-evening long concert of spiritual music in the church where they chant every Sunday and religious holiday for Holy Liturgy. The occasion for this unique spiritual and musical event was the celebration of the first anniversary of the founding of this young and well-rehearsed choir.

The repertoire, which was welcomed with enthusiasm by the public which filled the church of St. Paraskeva to the last seat, included works by A. Gavanski, I. Srbin, A. Arhangelski, S. Rachmaninoff, P. Chesnokov, R. Maksimovic, V. Milosavljevic, and Stevan St. Mokranjac. Accompanying the choir, which performed the very demanding program without fault as arranged by young conductor Dejan Milivojevic, were soloists Jelena Gavrilovic – soprano, Maja Miljkovic – alto, Marko Sreckovic – tenor, Slobodan Savic – baritone and Nebojsa Babic – bass-baritone, whose performances showed all the beauty of these works of Orthodox spiritual music composed for choir and soloists.

CONCERT FOR STUDENTS

On Monday, October 3, 2005 in the Culture Hall of the Student City in Belgrade a concert was held on the theme “Let us renew ourselves, let us build Stupovi”. Performs included the choir “Melodi”, the groups “Ziva Voda”, “Teodulija”, “Stupovi”, “Svitanje”, “Gora”, the vocal-instrumental group “Aleksandr Nevsky, and flutist Milinko Ivanovic-Crni. Actress Maja Nosovic and actor Ivan Bosiljcic recited several suitable texts.

Traditional chants and music decorated with ethnic motifs transferred a part of the original traditional spirit to the student public. All the performances were accompanied by generous applause in the overflowing auditorium of the Culture Hall.

The organizers of the concert include the Society of Friends of the monastery of Djurdjevi Stupovi, the Culture Hall of the Student City and the St. Sava Youth Community of the Student City “St. John Chrysostom”.

CELEBRATION OF GRADUATION

The graduating class of the seminary of the Holy Three Hierarchs in the monastery of Krka gathered on September 5-6, 3006 in Sabac and celebrated their 30 year reunion. The celebration of this pleasant gathering began with Holy Liturgy on Wednesday, September 5, 2005 in the monastery of Petkovica.

After religious services and a festive luncheon, the participants continued their conversation with memories of their school years. The following afternoon a visit to the monastery of Kaona concluded this unique event with the desire to have it continue next year.
