His Eminence Metropolitan Jovan of Zagreb and Ljubljana and Croatian Minister of Culture Bozo Biskupic will welcome all guests.

ORTHODOX THEOLOGICAL FACULTY STUDENT WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN ORATORY

At the beginning of July 2006 the 15th Festival of Oratory SIRMIUM LUX VERBI – SIRMIUM LIGHT OF THE WORD took place. The festival brings together the best orators from related programs in institutions of higher learning throughout the country.

Like last year, the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University in Belgrade sent its best orator from the subject of homiletics. This year’s representative was Gligorije Markovic, a fourth year student, who competed in the category of original speeches.

The topics given were as follows: “Honor is my fate”, “The Tesla code” and “The aristocracy of the spirit or fear of elitism”. There were 17 orators in the category of original speeches and 10 in the category of speeches written by others.

Only 14 orators in both categories qualified for the final evening of competition. Gligorije Markovic delivered his speech on the topic “The aristocracy of the spirit or fear of elitism” and the jury judged him deserving of the first prize.

Gligorije Markovic’s success is even greater if we note that the second and third prize this year went to orators for the Faculty of Law in Belgrade. Congratulations to all the winners in the hope that oratory will continue to be nurtured and developed.
