Russian Council of Bishops to consider Church-wide veneration of number of Ukrainian saints
The session of the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church, currently being held in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral, will consider the question of Church-wide veneration of a number of Ukrainian saints, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations said Wednesday at a press conference dedicated to the hierarchical gathering, patriarchia.ru. reports.
Fr. Nikolai explained that the saints in question are already venerated by the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but the gathered hierarchs will take up the question of approving them Church-wide veneration in all dioceses throughout the canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The names of the saints were not specified.
377 bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church, representing 22 countries, are participating in the currently ongoing council, including almost every Ukrainian hierarch. Distinguished guests from other Local Orthodox Churches are also participating.
