Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus returns to duties after surgery
His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus returned to his official duties this morning, feeling strong and renewed following his two-week stay in London, where he had undergone laparoscopic surgery to remove two tumors on his liver, reports the site of the Church of Cyprus.
The Cypriot primate underwent surgery on the evening of October 16, after which doctors announced they were satisfied with the outcome of the surgery and that His Beatitude was recovering. He had publicly announced just a few days prior that he had been battling cancer all summer.
The archdiocesan staff warmly welcomed His Beatitude home, who, in turn, called on everyone to praise God, and expressed his gratitude for the smooth functioning of the Archdiocese in his absence and for all the prayers offered on his behalf.
Abp. Chrysostomos also noted to journalists that he was taking up his duties again while avoiding the more arduous aspects of his daily program for the next 6 weeks, giving his liver time to fully recover.
He also reiterated that there are some small, but not insubstantial, changes that he wants to make in the archdiocesan operations that will ensure a smooth transition to his successor, whenever that time should come.
