A 19th century wooden church was almost completely destroyed in the Kurgan province of Russia.The Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, which is a part of the Holy Kazan Monastery in the village of Chimeevo, Kurgan oblast, was ravished by a fire on Wednesday, which essentially destroyed the wooden church.

Dmitry Brovko, the head of the department for the protection of cultural heritage sites of the provincial government noted the great loss of the church, saying that within this region, there were three wooden churches, and now, there are only two.

The website of the monastery says that the consecration of the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God took place in May 1890. The monastery itself was formed in July 2002. It consists of two remaining churches: The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Chalice" and the Church of Seraphim of Sarov.

According to preliminary data, the air conditioner first caught fire, and then the fire spread to the roof. No one was reported to have been harmed, however the loss of a beautiful wooden church is a great tragedy for the people of Kurgan.
