Metropolitan Efthimios of Acheloos fell asleep in the Lord

Metropolitan Efthimios of Acheloos passed away on Christmas Eve.He was born in Agrinio in 1929. He studied at the Theological School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1948-1952), by which he was awarded a Doctorate (1980).

He was ordained to deacon in 1962 and Presbyter in 1963 by Metropolitan Konstantinos of Didymoteicho, Orestiada and Soufli. On December 14, 1968, the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece elected him Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Athens under the Diocese of Acheloos. On May 12, 2000 he was appointed Titular Metropolitan.

He served the Holy Archdiocese of Athens from various key administrative positions and was a prolific writer. He wrote about 74 books of theological and pedagogical content, including 15 volumes of Aids to Catechetical Teaching.

The funeral service will be held at the Metropolitan Church of Athens on Saturday, December 28 at 12 pm and the burial will take place on the same day at the old church of St. Christopher in Agrinio.

The body of the late Metropolitan of Acheloos will be lying in repose early in the morning on Saturday at the Church, where the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be performed.
