The Feast of St. Theodore Stratelates (the General) in the Patriarchate of Alexandria
On Saturday, February 8, 2020, feast of Saint Theodore Stratilates the Great Martyr, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa officiated at the Divine Liturgy which was held at the Holy Patriarchal Chapel of Saints Theodores.
During the Liturgy, the African students of the Patriarchal School of “Saint Athanasius,” based in the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. Savvas the Sanctified, chanted according to the established order and the Alexandrian typical.
The chapel of the Patriarchal Palace is dedicated to Saint Theodores, where the daily services are held according to the monastic typical. The temple’s iconostasis was transferred from the Church of St. John the Baptist from the historic Greek Kotsikio Hospital of Alexandria, today’s Gamal Abdel Nasser.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Alexandrian Primate presented the sacred icon of all Africans Saints, an icon of excellent style made by young hagiographers from Thessaloniki, which he sanctified. It should be mentioned that the icon is a donation by the “Philoptochos Fraternity of Thessaloniki.”
The Patriarch, being deeply moved by feelings of joy and sacred excitement, he wished for plenty of grace and light of the Triune God on the African students, of the Embassies Saints Theodores and all Saints in Africa.
