Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elects New Metropolitan of Imbros and Tenedos
The former Bishop of Erythres, Kyrillos, was shortly before elected new Metropolitan of Imbros and Tenedos by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Cyril, born as Ioannis Sykis, was born in the village Lampou Mili in Lesvos on November 11, 1963. He graduated from the Athens Theological School in 1988. He was ordained Deacon on September 14, 1990, and Presbyter in March 1991. He served at the Metropolis of Mytilini and a s a pastor in Smyrna.
On September 25, 2016, he was ordained in Smyrna at the Church of Saint Voukolos, Bishop of Smyrna, Titular Bishop of Erythres, Auxiliary Bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarch, who made him available to the Metropolitan of Smyrna. In October 2017, he was again appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarch. In May 2019 he was appointed Abbot of the Holy Trinity Monastery of Halki on Princes’ Islands.
