Greek Community of Egypt honored 100th anniversary since repose of Saint Nektarios

It has been one hundred years and his work, his miracles, his life with many hardships always remain relevant.

The Patriarchate of Alexandria celebrated the memory of St. Nektarios at the Patriarchal Vicariate in Hamzawi, Cairo, where the cell and chapel dedicated to his memory are located.

The festal Vespers were held in the courtyard of the Patriarchal Vicariate due to the COVID-19 restrictive measures.

The Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, officiated the festal Vespers.

“In this solemn service, after venerating the holy icon and his relics, I want you to feel the living presence of Saint Nektarios who reposed in the Lord one hundred years ago. He was deeply attached to this blessed Orthodox parish in Cairo, in this place where he once walked, officiated the religious services, he rejoiced, he was saddened, he met many Greek people. I want to convey to you the wishes and blessings of our Patriarch. I wish you to have the blessing of the saint,” said the Metropolitan Memphis Nikodimos.

As reported by ekkkairo.org, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis was accompanied by the Abbot of St. George Monastery in Old Cairo, Archimandrite Damaskinos Alazrai, the Megas Ecclesiarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Archimandrite Stefanos Soulamitis, and Father Ioakeim, Father Paisios and Arab-speaking priests.

The festal Vespers service was attended by the Consul General of Greece in Cairo, Maria Zisi, the General Secretary, Chrysanthi Skoufaridou, who represented the Greek Community of Cairo, and the Community Commissioner, Leonidas Fontrie.
