Feast of the Ascension of the Lord at the Cathedral of the Ecumenical Patriarchate

His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who is visiting these days Istanbul, has celebrated today, May 28, 2009, in the St. George Patriarchal Cathedral in Phanar, together with His Holiness Bartholomew I, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, the Holy Liturgy on the Great Feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel offered to his host, His Holiness Bartholomew I, a patriarchal set of engolpions, a sculpted chalice, books and the icon of St. Iachint of Vicina, the first Metropolitan of Wallachia recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

In his address, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel talked about the significance of this Great Feast. His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew I thanked Patriarch Daniel for his visit and pleaded for brotherly understanding and communion between people.
