20th Аnnual Serb Fest draws record crowds

The 20th Annual Serb Fest at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, an annual celebration of Serbian culture, music and cuisine established in 1991, closed on Sunday night after having drawn record crowds over the four-day festival. 

Over 50,000 visitors attended this year's Serb Fest which lasted from Thursday to Sunday, with hundreds of people even braving the Sunday afternoon rain showers to enjoy good music, food and fellowship before the event closed.

"I owe all of this year's success to the unrelenting efforts of the Serb Fest Committee and their families.  So many people sacrificed their time, in some cases months, to create something our community can be proud of.    Seeing everyone enjoy themselves invigorated all of us to want to make next year's Serb Fest even better ," said Serb Fest Chairman Pete Kostur.

"The great success of this year's Serb Fest is a testimony of the overwhelming love of our parishioners and volunteers who devoted countless hours and tremendous effort in order to support their Cathedral, promote our culture, and make sure all our guests experienced traditional Serbian hospitality and activities for people of all ages," said Fr. Darko Spasojevic, Cathedral Dean.

"These volunteers form our church and sustain our church and we are truly thankful to them for all their work and devotion," Fr. Darko added.

In addition to Serbian-Americans from throughout the Chicagoland area, this year's Serb Fest attracted many non-Serbian members of the community as well.
