Professor Christos Yannaras to speak аt Saint Steven’s Cathedral
The Western American Diocese and the Saint Steven's Cathedral are pleased to host Professor Christos Yannaras for a lecture on the theme "Religion and Church: Two Incompatible Realities?"
This event will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Saint Steven's Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 1621 West Garvey Avenue, Alhambra CA, followed by dinner and an opportunity for questions and answers. Questions on the topic of his presentation, as well as other topics the Professor often addresses such as "Crises of Economy" and "Salvation as an Individual or Communal Event" will also be welcome.
Professor Yannaras’ research and writings are very significant to our Orthodox faith. As a noted author and philosopher, he has earned the respect of clergy and academicians for his work, and we are fortunate to have him visit our Diocese and Cathedral parish. His presentations are always both enlightening, thought-provoking and enriching to all those who attend.Christos Yannaras is an important author of more than 50 books, many of which have been translated into multiple languages. He was born in Athens in 1935. He is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He studied Theology at the University of Athens and Philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Paris. He holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also holds a Ph.D. from the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines of the Sorbonne. He has been nominated Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa, by the University of Belgrade, St. Vladimir’s Seminary and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Professor Yannaras has served as visiting professor at the Universities of Paris, Geneva, Lausanne and Crete.
