Church School begins in North Canton
On September 14th, 2014 St George Serbian Orthodox Church in North Canton began the new liturgical year by blessing church school teachers, students, and parents. Over 20 children were present, with more enrolled for regular instruction.
This year’s church school theme is “Finding Christ in the Divine Liturgy.” The St George curriculum will focus on how Orthodox Christians participate in Liturgy, while teaching students how our worship services reveal the truth that “God is with us.” Students will also have a number of opportunities, one each month, to bond socially and to grow as stewards in the church.
Running concurrent with church school will be adult educational classes focusing on teaching the broader community about Divine Liturgy. These interesting, hands-on classes will give older students and adults the opportunity to dive deeper into the material that our St George Church School will be learning. Parents are the most important educators of our children, so it is vital that they strengthen their faith through practice and education as well!
The Church School blessing concluded with a sarma dinner with proceeds being submitted to the Diocese for flood relief in Serbia and Republika Srpska. Over one month, including this dinner, the St George community raised $3000.
May God grant the students, teachers, parents, and community a wonderful year of growth in Christ!
