St George Assyrian Church Reopened in the Baghdad Suburb of Dora
Iraq: After being bombed and destroyed by terrorists following the commencement of the 2003 war in Iraq, St George’s Church of the Assyrian Church of the East in the Baghdad suburb of Dora has risen once more.
The beautifully re-built church was opened and consecrated this week by His Holiness Mar Gewargis III Sliwa, Catholicos-Patriarch in the presence of His Beatitude Mor Ignatius Ephrem Joseph III Younan, Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church, many hierarchs from sister churches, Iraqi political leaders and a large congregation. May the opening of this church to the glory of God mark new beginnings for Iraq’s beleaguered Assyrian Christian community.
