Anniversary celebration at St George church
The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania is blessed to be a part of the Eastern American Diocese with His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN as the Diocesan Bishop. The parish is in the Pittsburgh Deanery.
The St. George Church celebrated the Sixty First Anniversary of the church’s consecration on November 1, 2015. The church was completed on October 31, 1954.
Mitred Archpriest Stephan Romanchak came for this year’s celebration. Father Stephan preached an inspiring sermon. Living and departed members of the parish were remembered in the prayers of the Divine Liturgy. The St. George Choir under the direction of Sonia Janson sang the responses.
The Anniversary dinner and program were held at Dolfi’s in nearby Masontown. Executive Board members Stan Brozik, John and Felecia Williamson, Andrea Janson and Millicent Mitzie Hunchuck participated in the program. Sonia Janson represented the Choir and Kolo.
Parishioners reading from the spiritual writings of St.Nikolai Velimirovich included Djelosh Milosevich, Paulette Radock, Mildred Bezjak, Frank Menhart, Dr.Ivko Dimitric, and Wayne Kirby.
Attorney Linda Chambers gave a talk based on lessons learned throughout her lengthy legal career. Attorney Chambers drew particular attention to the value of the oath on the Bible utilized in court. She referenced the final judgment that will occur at Christ’s Second Coming.
Dr. Charles Paroda offered greetings from Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Mission Parish in Fairmont, West Virginia A significant number of people were present from Fairmont.
Very Reverend Rumen Stoychev from Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church in Youngwood and Reverend Father Matthew Stagnon from St. Mary Orthodox Church Morgantown, West Virginia came for the dinner and program. They shared their thoughts.
This was one of the best attended Anniversary celebrations at the Divine Liturgy and at the dinner and program. The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church continues to have new parishioners adding to the faithful that have been a part of the parish for many years. The parish has faithful friends and supporters.
