Choir Slava in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania
The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania is blessed to have long-time Choir Director Sonia Janson and dedicated choir members Andrea Janson, Djelosh Milosevich, Paulette Radock, Mildred Bezjak, Anna Mae Knezovich, Ludwig Miscovich, Mary Jo Krivitsky and Frank Menhart. Milosh Serb Krewasky supplements the singing and Nina Romanchak is a helper.
The St. George Choir celebrates the Renovation of the Church of St. George(Nov.16) as the Slava. This year’s celebration occurred on Sunday November 13 with the blessing of the Slava Kolach and Koljivo. Living and departed choir members were remembered in prayer.
Following the Divine Liturgy the Slava dinner and program were held in the church hall. Sonia Janson served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Director Janson noted that the Slava was adopted many years ago when Father Adam Yonitch served as the parish priest at St. George Church.
Speakers and readers at the Slava program included: Stan Brozik, John and Felecia Williamson, Andrea Janson, Aaron Carson, Dr. Scott, Sarah and Emily Newton, Paulette Radock, Djelosh Milosevich, Mary Jo Krivitsky, Milded Bezjak, Milosh Serb Krewasky, Dr.Ezekiel Olagoke, Dr.Richard Romanos Pierce, Lt. Col. Willie and Thekla Spens.and Rebeccca Mitchell. Additional participants in the Slava celebration included Joseph, Richelle, Elijah, Luka, Nina and Jonah Romanchak, Zachary Newton, Beth Ann Stephens and daughter Taylor, Grulja and Wilma Milosevich, Lucille Carnahan, Glenda Sethman, and Anna Mae Knezovich.
The program readings this year were from the writings of St. Nikolai of Zica and included hymns in tribute to St. George. Additional readings were from the Psalms referencing singing unto the Lord.
The St. George Choir provides responses at the Divine Liturgy each Sunday and on weekdays. The choir sings responses at baptisms, weddings, funerals, parastoses and at other times when needed.
The St. George Choir has a well-established record of dedication. Choir members make a significant effort to serve the St. George Church. The St. George Choir is deeply appreciated.
