Our Saint Sava Gem in North Port
With God’s help, our wonderful Serbian Orthodox Christian faithful, under the dynamic leadership of Fr. Sasa Djurdjevic, are finally preparing to move into their lovingly built church of Saint Sava in North Port, Florida.
During his first archpastoral visitation, His Grace Bishop Irinej on February 4th of this year, following the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, promised to help his North Port faithful overcome the obstacles that have obstructed their way forward in the past, as well as find them a suitable parish priest. Encouraged by this promise and trusting their Bishop, the faithful immediately undertook the painting of the interior of their new church which had been dormant for so long. Following which, as the faithful promised their new Bishop, at present electric and water installations, as well as air conditioning units are being installed in order to gain occupancy rights to the church that they built with their hands and funded by their hard earned donations!
Of course, as the late Metropolitan Iriney always held, without one of the wings of the church, the Circle of Serbian Sisters, their tireless work and subsequent donations, everything would have been much more difficult! May we all very soon gather around this sanctuary, its pastor and faithful in order to participate in the Rite of Lesser Blessing and put the sanctuary into liturgical use as a gather place for the faithful to worship. Here, so that the other wing of the church, the choir, may raise their beautiful voices to God in songs of praise!
