Church-school year begins at St. Nicholas
“ Let the Little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 19:14
Continuing tradition, on Sunday September 10 for the commencement of the 2017-2018 church school year, the St. Nicholas parish of Philadelphia served the moliban and blessing of the children for the upcoming school year. This year ‘s theme is “ We Worship God In Church” and will focus on our life in the Church, the Divine Liturgy, and the Holy Gospel. The children are divided into five class levels, and new to this year is a first grade class.
Following the blessing, Father Milorad gave a children’s sermon on the Synaxis of the Serbian saints, emphasizing how we as are all called to live a holy life as the saints did, emulating them who forsook all for the glory of God. The Children learned that the one of the original names for Christians was “saints”, and that each of us is called to the same fullness of sainthood as those who have been glorified by God.
The children had their first lesson of the year on the Holy Mystery of Baptism, learning how we become part of God’s family.
Following class the faithful enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Jurcak family.
