Annual Prayer Service for the United Nations Community
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity hosted the Annual Prayer Service for the United Nations Community presided by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and sponsored together by the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States and the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches.
Their Eminences Archbishop Demetrios and His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian of the Armenian Church of America, chairmen of the respective Conferences addressed the prayerful assemblage. His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America represented the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Their Royal Highnesses Prince Mihailo and Princess Ljubica of Serbia graced the evening with their presence. Among the many dignitaries present from the United Nations Community, especially the diplomatic corps, the august gathering was addressed by His Excellency Miroslav Lajčák, President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, as well as Ambassador and Plenipotentiary Theofili of the Permanent Mission of the Hellenic Republic to the UN. Responses were sung by the Cantors of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral, as well as St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary Choir.
