Director of Christian Education Deacon Jovan Anicic PhD Speaks at McGinley-Rice Symposium
Attended and was a Session Speaker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the 9th Annual Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit McGinley-Rice Symposium, a nationally recognized academic conference hosted by the Duquesne University School of Nursing.
The focus of this year’s Social Justice for Vulnerable Populations Conference was entitled “The Face of the Person Who Has Been Trafficked” held October 25 & 26, 2018. Presenters and experts from a broad scope of professions and services addressed this very grievous human tragedy that persists even in our own time.
Deacon Jovan presented at a breakout session entitled “Theologizing Suffering: Pain as the Possibility of a Relationship of Love.” Sharing his knowledge of various programs for those underserved and traumatized as the result of the Balkan Wars, clearly demonstrated the depth of our Orthodox theology and the perspective of our faith as a lens through which this profound concept can be contemplated. His lecture was both well received and generated stimulating dialogue from conference participants, individuals primarily in the medical and social services professions.
