First school of Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia to open in 2021
The first school of the Serbian Orthodox Church is preparing to welcome its first students in an ideal environment in western Sydney on the feast day of St. Sava, on January 27, 2021. St. Sava College will operate in the suburb of Varroville under the auspices of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
It is the first school of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia, which aspires to meet the needs of families of Serbian origin living in the Greater Sydney region and addresses other communities with common values and traditions, such as the Greek one.
The pioneer of the project, Father Rade Radan, has a special relationship with St. Spyridon College in Kingsford, where his daughters also graduated, and expressed his satisfaction with the encouraging response from parents during the ongoing registration period. As he said in an interview with vema.com.au, “By delving into all aspects of our cultures, languages, traditions and living the Orthodox faith at St. Sava College, we aim to offer students a rich experience of their cultures. For example, the Greeks and the Serbs experienced for centuries a common fate under the Ottoman rule over the Balkans. The consequences for both nations are common to this day. The sad conversion of churches into mosques in Turkey is the most recent common tragedy of our peoples.”
