First Maasai priest in Tanzania

On Sunday, October 4, 2020, Metropolitan Demetrius оf Irinoupolis presided over the Holz Liturgy at St. Perskevi Church in Dar es Salaam, capital of Tanzania.

During the Liturgy, deacon Elias Kaatisiko was ordained into the priesthood and thus became the first Orthodox priest in Tanzania from the Maasai tribe in the presence of many indigenous people from different tribes of Tanzania and the greek diva.

At the end of the Mass, the Maasai congratulated the first Tanzanian priest of their tribe in their African way. Then a table of love was set up for the audience.

Father Elias will be responsible for missionary service among the Maasai tribe. His service will be in the eastern Tanzanian city of Morogoro, where there are about 30 primitive (Bedouin) groups of Maasai.
