Renovated Church of Transfiguration in Kizhi Park to hold first service on patronal feast 2020

The restoration of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Kizhi Pogost (church courtyard), which is part of the Kizhi Park museum-reserve ensemble on Lake Onega in Russia’s Republic of Karelia, is set for completion by 2020, according to museum director Elena Bogdanova. The first service is planned for August 19, the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the church’s patronal feast day, reports the Russian Ministry of Culture.

Monument to Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarevich Alexey in Novosibirsk attacked with axe

Novosibirsk police are looking into the damage inflicted on a monument to Tsar Nicholas II and his son Tsarevich Alexey, installed in July at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, reports Interfax-Religion, with reference to the press service of the regional office of Russian Internal Affairs.

A new church is currently being built in the Kalyva of the Holy Resurrection in Kapsala on Mt. Athos, Protopresbyter Peter Heers writes on his Facebook page. The project is being undertaken by Elder Evthymios, a spiritual child of St. Paisios and of his spiritual child Elder Isaak, along with the brotherhood of the Resurrection Kalyva.

New monument to Royal Martyrs opened in Diveyevo

A monument to the family of the last Russian emperor, the holy Royal Martyrs, created with people’s donations from across the country, opened today on the Holy Trinity Cathedral square at the St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent, reports Foma.

The monument was initiated by the St. Basil the Great Foundation and the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolia, and consecrated by Metropolitan Barsanuphius of St. Petersburg and Ladoga. The ceremony was attended by the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Valery Shantsev, Metropolitan George of Nizny Novgorod and Arzamas, and the founder of the St. Basil Foundation Konstantin Malofeev.
