Petition written up against holding Eurovision Contest in Kiev’s St. Sophia’s

A petition to prohibit holding the opening ceremony of the singing contest “Eurovision 2017” on the territory of Kiev’s St. Sophia’s Cathedral national preserve has appeared on the Kiev City Council’s website, reports RIA-Novosti.

The St. Sophia’s preserve, under UNESCO protection, is being considered by the event’s organizers as the venue for the opening ceremony of “Eurovision 2017.”

Relics of St Demetrius of Thessaloniki Welcomed in Belarus

The right hand of St Demetrius of Thessaloniki is touring Belarus for veneration. These days the Greek delegation headed by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Veria and Naoussa is on a visit with the relics in the capital and few cities of the central and eastern Belarus. The relics is in Belarus as part of the celebrations of the feast of St Demetrius.

The Synaxis of the Abbots and Abbesses in the Archdiocese of Bucharest took place Thursday, 3 November 2016, at Pasărea Monastery, Ilfov County. His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, chaired the session.

Patriarch of Jerusalem participates in "Byzantine Thessaloniki" Conference

On Sunday, the 24th of October/6th of November 2016, H.B. Theophilos, Patriarch of Jerusalem, accompanied by the Elder Secretary-General, Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, and Archdeacon Markos, led the Divine Liturgy at the magnificent St Demetrius Church in Thessaloniki, having as concelebrants H.B. Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus, Metropolitan Anthimos of Thessaloniki, and other Prelates.

The Divine Liturgy was held on the conclusion of the Conference on the city’s Byzantine ecclesiastical heritage. During lunch, His Beatitude spoke in Greek.
