Patriarch Kirill supports restoration of places connected with mass massacre of Jews by fascist occupants
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia backed up To Restore Dignity Russian Jewish Congress project dedicated to preserving and commemorating places of massive extermination of Jews by fascist occupants.
"The program aimed at keeping the memory about innocent people deserves support and sympathy," Patriarch Kirill said in his message to the Russian Jewish Congress President Yury Kanner that was read out on Thursday at a round table in the Moscow Memorial Synagogue.
The Primate of the Russian Church noted that "our joint duty is not to allow insinuations aimed against memory of warriors killed in World War II battle fields and civil population who suffered trials of the wartime and anti-humanity of fascist regime."
Participants in the round table urged Russian authorities to introduce the Holocaust and Militants Liberators Commemoration Day and time it for January 27 - the day when the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz death camp.
