Ukrainian customs officers detained "pilgrims' wear" from Gucci, Prada and Armani

Ukrainian customs officers seized a large consignment of expensive clothes and accessories of the world leading brands reported as humanitarian aid, in particular, "pilgrims' wear". The name of charity fund which attempted to smuggle infringing goods into Ukraine has not been disclosed yet, Zerkalo Nedeli weekly reports on its site referring to its sources in the Ukrainian customs.

According to customs experts, it is already quite evident that the case involves millions or even tens of million grivnas.

The package of consignment documents included the permit issued by the Committee for Humanitarian Aid at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine which recorded this consignment as humanitarian aid. This document is the basis for exempting the cargo from any taxes, including VAT. The consignment reported as "pilgrims' wear" contained clothes of such renowned fashion houses as Prada, Valentino, Gucci, Dior, Armani, Antonio Maras, etc. In average, a dress from this consignment is valued at $565.
